So due to some technical difficulties, Guys on a Couch will have to take a brief hiatus. I’m not sure how long it will be, but I’ll try to make up for any missed strips. Sorry about this. Hopefully we’ll be back on track by Friday, but I can’t make any guarantees.
So I was pretty mad about this when I started making this strip, but by the end, I realized if I really wanted to watch a specific sporting event, I can probably find a television to watch it on. Most of the stuff I’d be really interested in is stuff that probably isn’t even offered online.
Basically, it was another opportunity to complain about my less than adequate internet service provider. Not that I needed another reason, mind you, it’s more about piling on to the mountain of complaints.
I’m looking forward to really trying out the new dashboard later. It has some issues updating some stuff like Netflix, but I’m pretty sure that was because there are a million other people trying to do it at the same time. If it’s still an issue later, then I’ll address it.
The primary reason for the update was to make the machines function with Kinect. I will be getting a Kinect sometime, but it won’t be real soon. I’m not really a first generation tech buyer. That and I don’t have any extra money right now.
I’m excited to use Kinect, but I doubt I’ll use it for gaming. There are just so many little features that it’s too useful not to have. My kids, however, will probably have a new toy for sure. There will be some great games and activities for them, but me, not so much.
This scenario is not one I’ve actually experienced, but I get the feeling a similar situation has happened somewhere. It really is a parent’s responsibility to make sure kids see the classics like Back to the Future. I’d hate to have to punch out a kid for dissing Marty McFly.
So this is my 50th strip. I’m kind of surprised I actually stuck with it this far. At this point, I don’t see how I could stop anytime soon. I’ve put a lot of work into it and I actually have seen the fans grow little by little. I really do hope everyone who reads this is enjoying what I do. I know not every strip is great (I am aware some are not even good), but I do what I can. I do appreciate all the feedback people leave. While I may not respond to it (I’m notoriously bad about not responding to anything in a timely fashion, which is a particularly bad habit for my line of work), I do read every single comment, even the spam before I delete it, just to make sure it’s not a real comment.
Read some good news yesterday about the upcoming Borderlands patch. “A couple weeks” it says. As of today (Friday) we are 11 days out from Black Ops. Fable III and Fallout New Vegas are out now. It’s a good time to be a gamer.
Hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween.
Here’s to another 50 strips.
I’m 28. I know it’s not that old, but it sure feels a lot older when I realize how many people there are who are way more successful than me and are much younger. When did that happen?
I’m not asking to be a billionaire or anything…just a comfortable multimillionaire. Unfortunately I think hard work just doesn’t cut it anymore. You have to “know somebody” in order to get ahead. Okay, I’m just going to wrap it up there, because I’m depressing myself. Maybe I’m just a pessimist about it.
Finally got a chance to play The Sacrifice for Left 4 Dead 2 yesterday. It’s really good. If you have the game and enjoy it, it’s a must buy.
My oldest daughter is currently experiencing her first Red Ribbon Week. I’ll be interested to see what she has to say tonight. So far, all it has meant to her is she get’s to wear all red clothes today. Tomorrow, she get’s to wear boots.
As a parent, I’m very happy to have an anti-drug message being given from multiple sources. As a smart parent, I realize that it’s still my job to make sure she understands it. As a gamer, it’s my job to make sure she understands that video games are not a problem in any fashion…unless they’re bad.
As far as I know, no one has actually tried to put drugs and video games in the same “this is bad for you” message, but I know there are people out there who would put them on the same level…for some stupid reason.
I looked over the NFL matchups yesterday and didn’t see anything that particularly interested me so I spent most of yesterday playing games and watching other TV. As is my habit, I watch all the game highlights online this morning. I probably missed the best week of football ever. It was crazy. There were all sorts of upsets and records set. Guess that’ll teach me.
I downloaded The Sacrifice for Left 4 Dead 2 a while back, but still haven’t played it. I was going to play it on lunch today, but then I remembered it came with the No Mercy campaign from L4D1 and decided I’d try that out. I can’t even count how many time’s I’ve played No Mercy, but it was like a new experience with all the L4D2 weapons and specials.
A friend of mine recently got L4D2 so I imagine that will rekindle my interest in it. I just have to get my group of friends to download the new DLC so I can actually play it.
Still waiting on the Borderlands patch……………..
While not particularly skilled at them, I enjoy playing Rock Band and Guitar Hero. My wife and I picked up Rock Band on sale a few months ago and have had a lot of fun playing together. Unfortunately, we haven’t played as much as I would like and actually haven’t even unlocked the Endless Setlist yet. I am looking forward to trying it out one day.
G4 has a video of some of their people getting the Endless Setlist III achievement from Rock Band 3. While no doubt exhausting, it looks like a blast to try.
When I say I’m not particularly skilled, I’m being pretty nice to myself. I can play pretty well on medium and I can survive on most songs on hard. I’m actually just one song short of getting the Axe Assassin (Finish Guitar Solo Tour on Hard) achievement. Someday I’ll get it…I hope. I need to find a cheap copy of RB2 and try it out. I know these games are all pretty much the same, but a wide variety of songs is nice.
By the way, let me add I know the title of this strip is not the order of the buttons. I just picked a random order that seemed to be something that the games might throw at you.
Yes, that miner joke is probably a little outdated even now, but whatever.
I’m going through a similar set of feelings right now. Fallout: New Vegas was just released and Fable 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops are not far behind. Unfortunately, I just don’t make enough money to provide for my family and sustain my video game habit.
I guess the family will have to go.
What’s really annoying is the one great game that I own and can play whenever I want still hasn’t gotten it new patch. Borderlands’ last DLC was released at the end of September. Since that time we have all been waiting for the update that will increase the level cap and do some other stuff…the level cap is really all I care about. I hate doing missions knowing that it’s wasted XP. So I’ve put that aside until the patch is released. Rumors say it’ll come Oct. 26, but I still haven’t seen anything official.
That does bring me to something I thought was funny. The top search terms that lead people to this blog/comic all have to do with the Borderlands level cap patch. I guess I’ve mentioned it a few times. Is it possible that I deliberately brought it up today to drive in a little more traffic? It is possible, yes. However, I will neither confirm nor deny it.
